Why Volunteering Matters for Our Communities Today

What makes volunteering such a meaningful part of our faith and community life?

The Qur’an teaches:

“Help one another in righteousness and piety.” (5:2

Volunteering breathes life into this verse.

Every act of service creates hope, strengthens communities, and unites us in shared purpose.

This International Volunteer Day, we celebrate the volunteers whose compassion shapes stronger, more caring communities across America.

Service as Worship

Helping others is more than generosity — it is spiritual devotion.

The Prophet (saww) said:

“The service of a believer… is a station of reward whose greatness can only be perceived by returning the same service.” (Mustadrak al-Wasa’il, v.12, p.429, n.14524

Volunteering allows us to live our faith with sincerity and support others with compassion.

Building Stronger Communities

Serving others strengthens the foundations of American communities.

Imam Ali (as) said:

“The best of your brothers is the one who rushes to do good and helps you with it.” (Ghurar al-Hikam, n.5021

Through service, encouragement, and support, volunteers build bonds of care and responsibility that keep communities strong.

Multiplying Impact Through Volunteering

Every act of service has the power to grow beyond measure.

Imam Al-Sadiq (as) said:

“Allah (swt) enhances severalfold whomever He wishes.” (Bihar al-Anwar, v.71, p.247, n.7

Volunteering inspires others, multiplies good, and spreads hope throughout the community.

Volunteers Bring Hope to Life

Volunteers bring hope to life in communities across America.

On International Volunteer Day, we recognize those who give their time and compassion to uplift others.

Every act of kindness reinforces community strength and creates meaningful, lasting impact.
