What Do We Learn from the Loyalty and Sacrifice of Ummul Baneen (sa)?

Who Was Ummul Baneen? 

Born Fatima bint Hizam, Ummul Baneen (sa) belonged to the noble Banu Kilab tribe. (WikiShia) 

She married Imam Ali (as) after the passing of Sayyida Fatima Al-Zahra (sa). Their four sons — Abbas, Abd Allah, Ja’far, and Uthman — were martyred in Karbala.

When she entered Imam Ali (as)’s home, she asked not to be called by her given name to spare the children the pain of remembering their mother, Lady Fatima (sa). 

She raised her sons with a love for Imam Hussain (as) and taught them that true loyalty lies in serving truth — even when it demands sacrifice.

The sacrifice of Ummul Baneen (sa) was deeply profound.

“Surely, Allah (swt) has chosen for us followers (Shias), who assist us and are happy at our happiness and are sad in our sadness.” (Ghurar al-Hikam, v.1 p.135) 

She lived this teaching. Her sorrow was always for the suffering of the Ahlulbayt (as), never for herself alone.
