What is special about the month of Dhul Qidah

In Islam, some months hold special meaning and spiritual significance.

One of these is Dhul Qidah, a sacred month that encourages believers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with Allah (swt).

It is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic calendar, a time when peace and worship are especially emphasized.

At The Zahra Trust, we believe that Dhul Qidah is an opportunity to renew faith and strengthen spiritual habits

A Qur’anic reminder

Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve… of which four are sacred.”

Surah At-Tawba, Ayah 36

Dhul Qidah is one of these sacred months, making it a time of special importance.

Why Dhul Qidah is special

The name Dhul Qidah refers to refraining from conflict

Historically, it was a time when people avoided warfare and focused on peace. This allowed believers to:

  • Reflect on their faith
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Prepare spiritually

A connection to Hajj

Dhul Qidah comes just before the month of Dhul Hijjah, when Muslims perform Hajj. It was traditionally a time when pilgrims would travel safely to Makkah.

This month is also connected to the preparations for the Prophet Muhammad’s (saww) Farewell Pilgrimage, a moment that emphasized unity and devotion

A time to slow down

Dhul Qidah reminds believers to step back from daily distractions and focus on what truly matters.
