Milad un-Nabi
A mercy sent to all the worlds
Milad un-Nabi marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), the final Messenger of Allah (SWT), whose life transformed a fractured society into a community built on justice, mercy and service. The Holy Qur’an describes him simply and completely: “We sent you not but as a mercy to all the worlds” (21:107).
“It is obligatory for every Muslim to acquire knowledge.”
— Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw)
As we celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet (saw), we can honour his teachings through the way we serve others. Education is one of the most lasting forms of charity: a single child empowered with learning can lift a family, a community and a future.
When is Milad un-Nabi 2026?
In 2026, Milad un-Nabi falls in the Islamic month of Rabi al-Awwal 1448. Two dates are observed, reflecting the narrations followed by different schools of thought:
12 Rabi al-Awwal
Around Tuesday 25 August 2026
Observed most widely across the Muslim world as the day of the Prophet’s (saw) birth.
17 Rabi al-Awwal
Around Sunday 30 August 2026
Marked in the Shia tradition, and shared with the birth anniversary of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (as).
Please note: both dates depend on the sighting of the moon. The Islamic calendar is lunar, so the start of Rabi al-Awwal — and therefore the Gregorian dates above — may shift by a day depending on where you are and which local moon-sighting announcement you follow. The days in between, from 12 to 17 Rabi al-Awwal, are observed by many as the Week of Unity.
