What is Muharram?
Muharram, also known as Muharram-ul-Haram, is the first month of the Hijri calendar and thus the beginning of the Islamic year. It is the only month that Allah’s name has been associated with; Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) referred to it as “the Sacred Month of Allah”.
Muharram is also the month that Imam Hussain (as) was martyred in Karbala on the Day of Ashura. Millions of people around the world commemorate this day and remember the events that led to his martyrdom. Imam Hussain (as) and his family sacrificed their lives to stand for what was right and against corruption.
